ASPPA Honors Cynthia A. Groszkiewicz with ACOPA’s Burrows Achievement Award

WASHINGTON, DC (October 26, 2014) – The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) honored Cynthia A. Groszkiewicz, MSPA, FCA, MAAA, with the 2014 Edward E. Burrows Distinguished Achievement Award during the 48th ASPPA Annual Conference at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD.

Groszkiewicz works at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, one of the top five law firms worldwide. Her position is unique in that her surroundings point her in many different directions involving complex retirement plan related issues. She has the ability to approach problems from a different angle which can lead to brilliant, “never-thought-of-that” solutions. Her initial foray into discrimination testing long before it was the everyday thing to do is just one of many examples of her leadership qualities.

Like Burrows, Groszkiewicz has been a leader in the pension actuarial community, sharing her insights by giving presentations and writing articles. An ASPPA member since 1974, she served as Editor-in-Chief of The Pension Actuary and served in various capacities on ASPPA’s Government Affairs Committee, Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Groszkiewicz was the founding member of the first ASPPA Benefits Council in Atlanta in 1993.

The Edward E. Burrows Distinguished Achievement Award is presented annually to a pension actuary who has, by their actions, set an example for other pension actuaries. This is an actuary who has gone above and beyond in forwarding ethics, education, beneficial legislation or regulations (or such other actions as the selection committee deems appropriate) that enhance the private pension system or the professionalism of enrolled actuaries within the private pension system. Burrows was a beacon in this regard, and ACOPA honors him by presenting an award that recognizes those who follow in his path and lead by his example.
